About the 997.1 GT3 – The Last True Mezger

The Porsche 911 GT3 (997.1) is considered by collectors and purists to be the last of the truly raw and analog GT3s. At its heart lies the legendary 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six, directly derived from the Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans race car engine, a powerplant with no direct successor.

Producing 415 hp and revving to 8,400 rpm, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox, it delivers an unfiltered driving experience that later generations could never replicate. The 997.1 is lighter, sharper, and more visceral than the 997.2 or 991 — a favorite among driving purists and serious Porsche collectors worldwide.
